Petition to Century Media[views:3018][posts:27]____________________________________ [Apr 26,2006 6:45pm - anonymous ""] Century Media, like many labels, once signed metal bands that were more than mere entertainment; they were artistic music groups that attempted to communicate truths of real meaning to those living and listening in our time. Following the rise of Century Media to corporate status, the label has increasingly begun signing bands for their popularity and consequently, the quality of new music from the label has declined and nu-metal, emo-influenced metal has become the norm. We beseech Century Media to realize that in the long term, signing quality metal will help them cultivate a dedicated and distinct audience and stand them in better economic health than being one more label putting out a steady stream of soulless acts that are a mishmash of metal, hardcore, rap and rock and sell _at first_ but fade quickly in popularity because they are recombinant and interchangeable. Sincerely, The Undersigned http://www.petitiononline.com/cent666/petition.html CM wrote in wondering about some MP3 samples on the web site, so Arminass and I decided to have some fun. Be polite. Who knows? Maybe they'll even wake up and see that what I say is true, and truth about their financial futures. |

_______________________________________ [Apr 26,2006 7:33pm - insipidzombie ""] really? i get ALL of their promos. you should just contact them and i'm still they'll hook you up. their promotions dude is a wicked chill guy. he may have just lost your addy |
_______________________________________ [Apr 26,2006 7:42pm - insipidzombie ""] they're not going to care. Remember, they signed Shadows Fall before anyone outside of Massachusetts knew who they were. They've had Lacuna coil signed to them for years. I just mention these two because they are HUGE right now. But it's not as though CM only signs shitty "manufactured" bands (as Opeth puts it). They've always have a knack for sniffing out creative, but at the same time commercially viable bands. They do have a bunch of shitty metalcore like Agent of Man, Maroon, etc but CM also continues to sign interesting bands like, recently, CRONIAN |

______________________________________________ [Apr 26,2006 11:30pm - DrinkHardThrashHard ""] They've put out a lot of great records over the years, and as has been stated, they are out to make money. They've also been partially responsible for metal becoming popular again. It's 'cool' to hate them, but in the end, 99% of heavy music fans don't give a fuck. They just want music from their favorite bands. So who cares. |

So who cares. right on. i could care less about what record label my favorite bands are on, all i want to know is, do they play music I like? they do? well good! century media could sign nickelback for all i care, did they release krisiun's albums? okay well, give me the krisiun CD's and nickelback can take their fruity, safe bubblegum rock and jump in a fuckin lake of diarrhea. |
_________________________________________ [Apr 27,2006 8:05am - mikexmike@work ""] What a joke. Anyone who signs this is living in a dream world. Century Media is no less a business than Exxon Mobil, and I don't count on Exxon Mobil to worry about my metal cd collection. Century Media has been pushing towards being a commercial label for a long time. I've heard stories about them approaching hardcore bands and telling them they'd sign them only if they turned into a commercial metalcore band. They don't care about anybody on any petition. |

______________________________________________ [Apr 27,2006 10:20am - DrinkHardThrashHard ""] Is Marco (Ill Literature creator/editor) still at CM? He at least worked there for awhile. He's a true oldschooler, but pretty open-minded, not to mention smart. Guy knows a lot about metal and has for almost 30 years. If he is still there, I wonder what he thinks of all the metalcore. You have to admit, though, despite having had Shadows Fall/God Forbid, they have FAR less metalcore than Roadrunner and Metal Blade. They are definitely commercial-oriented, but for the most part they have made bands like Nevermore commercial. |
_______________________________ [Apr 27,2006 10:40am - Yeti ""] i also dont give a shit what bands are signed to what label. as long as the albums are available, then who cares. like Moonfog re-releasing everything in their catalouge. does that make them sellouts because you can get any Darkthrone release? hell no. its awesome. i've noticed more labels doing that, like yesterday i went out and bought Immortal - Battles in the North at Newbury Comics. i havent been able to find that anywhere. |
