Josh_Martin said:
JayTUS said:
You also need to take into account that the Boston Red Sox have not taken a dime of public money
Wrong. They weren't GIVEN a dime because Finneran and Birmingham told them to go fuck off. They sure as fuck asked for several million dimes. My stadium comment was directed solely at the Red Sox. I don't disagree with anything else you said. I just don't care. I shouldn't have to fund a faggot baseball stadium if I don't want to.
They didn't get a dime, and have never taken a dime. So thank you for proving me RIGHT. The city and state don't want to fork over money for the Sox even though they pump MILIONS AND MILLIONS AND MILLIONS back into the economy, and with the plans they had in place through ticket taxes and financing, they would have been pumping every dollar they took back into the Massachusetts economy and more. It's no different then the Fortune 500 companies that also take federal handouts. NO FUCKING DIFFERENT. So check your facts before you bitch. A new stadium for the Sox would mean MILLIONS for the city and state, regardless of federal funding. It's just typical Boston politics for them to not give the money and accept the paybacks they get out of it anyway. The Red Sox NEED a new stadium. I love Fenway but I hate paying 20 bucks for bleacher seats if I am lucky enough to actually buy them through the Red Sox, 40-50 if I go through an agency. People do it and manage, but it fucking sucks. If I lived in Colorado or Arizona or Detroit or Milwaukee, Pittsburgh, Tampa Bay, hell, even Atlanta, I could walk up to the window day of game and get great seats for 20 bucks. If the Sox had a stadium with another 15,000 seats, they'd sell them all, they'd have the almighty luxary boxes and seat licensing they want and need to keep regular ticket prices down and affordable, they could hopefully have their own parking areas to drive down costs there, etc, etc, etc. More revenue = more money the team can spend on their players = no worries about losing guys like Pedro, Varitek, Cabrera and everyone else. Yankee Stadium holds 55,000 people. Fenway Park holds 34,000. Both sell out every night and have comparable ticket prices. Now we know why the Yankees can afford near 200 million dollar payrolls... And the players make the money they make because the teams are making enough money to afford it and still make money. If they weren't making what they were, that would just mean greedy owners were making it all...
